hi,peter 180,thousand miles, not having to add coolant level staying good.condition sounds like a bearing maybe also sounds constant movement or water at a bubbling boiling point, that is the main problem.i also know i have a slow drop leak in the power steering fluid-now believe it might be in the line,as a tecnitian said he looked and he believes the seal is dry, suggested to steam clean and check the line first.thanks bill.i have recently changeg the battery, calapers rotars and pads ,and have some invested in having it a little longer..

final reply i have recently hald the car checked, and have been told it is a bearing in the altinator that is making that noise, they took the belt off from underneath, and checked.reguarding the slow leak from the power steering fluid,he said he thought he see's that the rubber seal looked dry,and that i should, just have the grunge down, and along the hose steam cleaned and in his opinion then check the hose or line leading from the p steering pump.$390 for altenator complete,or purchase one, from an auto store or salvage business.whitch i am about to do locally, not on line from a1 auto.i thought i was getting hot air for a little longer having it on 65 this morning but pressed auto and ac/worked fine.final all-around thoughts, thanks bill....

didn't see any complaint of a/c in initial question, best thing to do here is have the a.c system evacuated and recharged with leak dye, common for the evaporator (under the dash) to leak refrigerant. If you are replacing the alternaotor I recommend using a Lexus unit- the dealer has remanufactured units or buy salvage, most commonly on these cars the power steering pump leaks and pours fluid directly into the alternator which causes failure, other than that these alternators just never wear out or fail on your car. Aftermarket units: I have installed too many of them that just don't work or fail in less than a year, spend the few extra dollars and fix it right the first time.
